I like how you've split the forum into subtopics. I'm also very interested in strength training for kids since I have a soon to be 11 year old son. I'm just now finishing a pulldown machine I'm building for him for his birthday. I had a good weight stack from an old leg curl I picked up at a local high school and it wasn't too difficult to adapt the frame with some cutting and welding at my dad's machine shop. I'll try to post a picture when I get a decent one.
I'm working on a full size leg press for me that's a cross between the MedX Avenger and the Negative Attitude line but I think he'll be able to use it as well.
I really think there might be some potential in manufacturing WELL DESIGNED machines that were adapted for kid's smaller frames. Hammer has a nice pulldown/chest press combo machine but it's too big for lots of kids. In a location like yours it might be good to have a "children's line" with smaller machines (kind of like the Nautilus women's machines). You might have a large enough population of potential customers to keep it busy.
Thanks,
David
